Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Rich, fit and Happy podcast. I'm Crystal O'Connor, where we want to take you from drab to fab in this beautiful life. Let's go. Hello. Hey, i have something a little weird to share with you, meaning it could be a little controversial and confusing, but I'm going to try to explain it so that it's not So here we go.

Speaker 1:

Did you know that a woman can be both estrogen dominant and low in estrogen at the same time? In fact, estrogen deficiency can also mean she's estrogen dominant. Low estrogen can cause estrogen dominance, meaning it can create it. You can have too much of it in your body and your body can hold on to it, and that's not what estrogen is supposed to do. It's supposed to be released, and fiber actually helps with that, so that you're not estrogen dominant. But if you don't have enough, your body will try to hold on to it.

Speaker 1:

So we have a problem here, because what I'm about to share with you you probably already see it on a daily basis, but you don't really know what you're seeing, and what I'm referring to is the epidemic of women and young women that are estrogen deficient, meaning they have more belly fat than generations before. So why is that? And why do I see our youth I'm referring to America, by the way. Here in the United States there's an epidemic of our youth having estrogen deficiency, not realizing it, and therefore that is why their bodies are changing and they have more belly fat. And this is definitely an epidemic and it causes so many health problems that it's outrageous. So I'm going to tap into that a little bit on this podcast episode, because this is really I mean, it's just got my mind reeling lately, and it should yours too. Why are our young girls struggling with weight and why are we trying to send a message of body positivity when it is pointing to unhealthy weight, meaning we're calling being overweight and having belly fat and low estrogen levels positive, when it's absolutely not, because all fingers are pointing to so many ailments.

Speaker 1:

Let me just go over what some of these ailments are. One of the ailments that I want to bring up is when a girl or a woman is low in estrogen. It's basically affecting every function in her body, from her skin to her nails, to her hair, to her heart The heart is a big one to her liver, all of her functions and all of her organs. So, basically, in this episode I want to share with you the mindset of estrogen, the benefits of estrogen and the basics of estrogen, so that you kind of understand where I'm coming from. I'm giving you a little bit of an education on it, because estrogen has been given a bad rap and it's hard to understand why. So let's get down to the bottom of this. So, basically, the women's health initiative, which was a study that was done many, many years ago, left us with the general mindset of physicians teaching us that estrogen is bad, that it somehow causes cancer, that we need to rid it out of the body and we need to keep it low. So let's talk about that.

Speaker 1:

So there are three types of estrogens in the female body, and those are estrone, estradiol and estriol, estriol being the weakest, estradiol being the most prevalent and productive. And estrone. Estrone can actually play a role like a repository, so that your body can. It's a less powerful estrogen that can convert estrogens and serve as a repository, but it's less powerful than estradiol. Estradiol is actually the most powerful and responsible for every function that your body has. So just think about that. Its main function is to mature and maintain your reproductive system. So during ovulation, it's responsible for the release of the egg and the thickening of the uterus which allows a fertilized egg to implant. So estradiol, like I said, is the weakest and it's almost undetectable in the female body. So let's talk about estradiol. So estradiol is the most important and it's the most important to keep balanced or to keep at healthy level. So it happens to be the one that physicians are talking about balancing, because it's the main sex hormone. Estradiol is the one that they're referring to mostly when they are talking about balancing it and balancing their estrogen, and when they are referring to estrogen levels in general and when I'm referring to it.

Speaker 1:

So, in terms of estrogen production, estrogen is basically produced in a lot of areas in the body. Let's just go over what some of those areas are. It's produced from the ovaries, most importantly, and we kind of all know that. It's also produced, though, in the brain, in the gut, the GI tract, in your fat, your adrenals, your breasts, liver, your pancreas, bones, skin and tissues. Estrogen is produced in a rhythmic type fashion throughout the body. It's mostly your ovaries that are producing the bulk of it. So, as you can see, there is a rhythm, and every month we get our period and that kind of indicates the rhythm that I'm referring to.

Speaker 1:

Progesterone works with estrogen. It's your secondary hormone and they work together to create this rhythmic cycle. These two hormones, estrogen and progesterone, work together like yin and yang, so one is needed for the other one to perform at its best. Yet it's progesterone that dictates all other hormones in the body and how they're going to respond. So progesterone without estrogen is not going to work at its best and it will literally make women feel crazy when these get way too low. You're not going to feel good. You're going to feel bad in a lot of ways. We're going to get to that in a minute.

Speaker 1:

So estrogen affects every function in the female body, down to every cell. So your mind and body is dependent upon adequate amounts of estrogen in order to work right. It's literally the most important hormone in the female body because it regulates everything, every thought and every feeling that you have. There is nothing more powerful than estrogen to a woman and how she feels and how she thinks, because they go together. Everything in your body is dependent upon estrogen. Ladies, let me just go over this. Your adequate amount of estrogen in your body will actually affect your central nervous system, your immune system, your renal system, your endocrine system, muscle, skeletal system, cardiovascular system, reproductive system. So therefore, you will have an increased risk of system failure one of those systems or all of them if estrogen is too low for too long.

Speaker 1:

Some of the things that aren't really talked about much in regards to estrogen and the importance of it are just some of the benefits. Other than a lot of things I'm going to get into regarding the functions of the body, i want to talk about how it because I've mentioned it affects the brain. It actually increases self-esteem and your self-worth. It changes how you see yourself, basically, and it increases your confidence. While doing that, it enhances the sense of security. It's so valuable. I want to also mention that it reduces duress, which increases your coping abilities. It increases your problem-solving abilities, so it reduces anxiety and that opens up more room for problem-solving, for contentment, adaptability Think about how powerful that is. It literally protects your brain against disease, and this is really important. Listen, if you're going to live beyond 50, which most of us want to do, don't you want to live a life without a disease, if at all possible? So estrogen protects the brain from disease. It increases executive function. It increases your memory, your cognition, your brain function It's so important.

Speaker 1:

It regulates your menstrual cycle. It prevents PMS. It prevents estrogen dominance. It helps with a healthy ovulation, which again can lead to pregnancy, if that's what you want. It reduces fat, and I mean the kind of fat you don't want. So it helps reduce your weight, your fat weight, and prevents cravings. It increases your metabolism and nitric oxide. It burns fat and prevents weight gain. Did you know that the fastest way to fatten up a pig is to remove her ovaries? It's true, the fastest way to fatten up a female pig is to remove her ovaries. Just asking a pig farmer. So estrogen definitely has a direct correlation to your fat content.

Speaker 1:

Estrogen also increases oxytocin levels. It actually will help you help your libido, increase your libido and help you want to want to have sex. It'll help you want to want to have sex. So that's going to help your relationship. For all you married gals. It increases the hormonal exchange and sensuality. It strengthens your nails. I may have actually already mentioned that in the beginning. It will actually give you better hair, a youthful glow. It increases your beauty. Basically, it actually will help you walk with grace.

Speaker 1:

Estrogen affects everything ladies, so it can reduce fine lines, especially around the mouth. It helps your skin level out. So if you have an acne problem, it can fix that. It can even out your skin tone. Let's talk about what it can actually do to your mouth and for your mouth and for your oral health. It actually protects your overall oral health, in fact. So it can help with your gums, promote healthy gums. It can reduce tooth decay, helps you maintain a saliva flow. It helps you prevent or reverse TMJ.

Speaker 1:

It will actually help you retain bodily fluid. Now, i don't mean retain fluid in a bad way. I mean it will help you stay hydrated. So it's going to help you optimize your tissue and your muscles. By doing that, when your body feels hydrated, it's not going to retain fluid in all the wrong places. So it's going to also help increase your physical strength and your endurance. If you are a pickleball player, like is so popular here in Florida I think it is pretty much everywhere now you're going to notice it's going to help your game. It's going to help your endurance and your performance. It's going to help you sculpt your body. It's going to make you feel stronger.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about sleep and how it helps with sleep. It's going to enhance your sleep by increasing your REM. It's going to help you fall asleep. It's going to help you stay asleep. Magnesium can do that too, but you can do both magnesium after you increase your estrogen. However you choose to do that, you won't feel like you need magnesium as much. You can do that through a phase where I desperately needed magnesium or I literally couldn't stay asleep more than a couple of hours. So you're going to basically feel rested when you wake up, when you have adequate levels of estrogen.

Speaker 1:

Now, for those of you that feel like you need caffeine to get you through the day, it could be very well likely that you don't have adequate estrogen levels, because I'm here to tell you estrogen increases your energy organically and sustainably. It increases nitric oxide, it increases your metabolism, like I've already mentioned, but you're going to have organic, sustainable energy and you will very likely not feel like that you need caffeine anymore. Let me also mention this. I'm going to talk about the gut, and you hear this a lot about the gut. The gut needs to be healthy, right, it's true, and the gut is connected to the brain. Now we're learning that more and more, and so it is absolutely essential to keep the gut healthy so that you don't have too much bad overgrowth or bad bacteria. So estrogen is actually going to help you with that.

Speaker 1:

Now it's crazy to see how this isn't talked about enough, but I'm here to tell you estrogen actually enhances your gut health and increases good bacteria. It aids in digestion and prevents bloating, and I'm here to tell you bloating is not fun and I hear about it so much from you, ladies, and men too, but women, healthy bowel movements and increased good bacteria is vital. It's vital to not only feel better, but to look better and to have everything functioning, and if estrogen can help you with that, then it's just something that you really need to consider. And, by the way, one thing that I haven't mentioned is just consider getting your labs done and then understanding. So the reason I'm sharing all of this is because it's not talked about enough. It's not talked about hardly at all.

Speaker 1:

I think that, more than anything, we're becoming more and more confused, and I'm hoping, and me explaining the positives of estrogen, that I start to help people understand, or at least start to look into like why have you been lied to? Start asking yourself that why are people leaving this out? Is what crystal saying true, go find the information out yourself, but I can help you find the information. There is a book by Robert Wilson, for instance, that I'm going to put in the show notes. Go read that book about estrogen. It could change your life. So, ladies, if your estrogen is so low that you have experienced hot flashes, it definitely reduces that You probably already know that, but it actually protects your heart.

Speaker 1:

So when I was younger I was about 16, when I would have very out of control heart palpitations, and remember the first time I finally said something about it at school to the school nurse. She noticed it as well and then said you know, what have you taken? And I said, well, nothing, nothing. I get these every day. I get them all the time And, trust me, this was not anxiety. I would just, you know, roll over in bed and sometimes get them. I would definitely get them in the morning. I would get them just walking down the hall. It was not anxiety, it was something else. And going to the doctor led them to put me on a heart monitor and consider that I might need heart medication. You know, no, i needed estrogen and I needed to understand it. But that's not what I got back then.

Speaker 1:

But I'm here to tell you it strengthens the heart. It increases circulation. It eliminates those irritating hot flashes that you might be getting if you are low in estrogen. So in reducing all of that and strengthening the heart, it's actually going to reduce heart disease, but yet it's just not talked about enough, is it? So basically, without estrogen, a woman's brain and body will actually malfunction and decline and essentially deteriorate until it's fully restored.

Speaker 1:

There are essentially thousands of symptoms that women experience when estrogen levels are too low. Those symptoms are both mental and physical. So estrogen deficiency basically leads to insulin resistance and a lot of belly fat, upper arm fat, and it's really hard, or if not impossible, to lose weight when you are estrogen deficient. So if you're someone that has noticed it and you're just feeling like, okay, so I just have to accept this, and it frustrates you and maybe you've never even had a weight problem before in your life. So you just keep trying and you keep lowering your calories and you try all these many different things, guess what Getting your body to estrogen levels that are optimal can help you lose weight? Yes, you will still have to watch what you eat. Yes, you will still have to work out, but I'm here to tell you it's not going to be hard anymore, and that's probably one of the most satisfying benefits of all. Okay, maybe not, but come on.

Speaker 1:

Carrying around extra weight affects you in so many ways. So I'm just going to share a few symptoms of low estrogen, because I think it's important. But it really affects the mental health of the individual that's suffering from low estrogen, and rage and anger and angst and irritability is part of that. If you are feeling any of that and you can't figure out why, along with the not being able to sleep, along with hot flashes, along with not looking and feeling your breasts, along with carrying extra weight, along with having cravings, this is literally a recipe for living a life of disaster, and it's only leading to disease. It leads to insecurity and increased amount of negative thoughts, low self-esteem, low self-worth. It's just awful, awful. So this is an interesting fact that, again, is not talked about or explained, and so I want to explain it, because I learned it recently, And that is that women with ovaries that are not pumping out estrogen like they should almost always give birth to daughters with estrogen issues as well, so it can actually be a generational issue. So most women are born with three generations of broken ovaries. Think about that, and it's not getting any better because we're not talking about it. How many times have I said that now?

Speaker 1:

Endocrine disrupting chemicals also disrupt your hormones, and we are looking at a world of endocrine disrupting chemicals every day. Here's the thing, though. It can actually be something that you can become more aware of, and a simple change can be the things that you put on your skin and the lotions that you buy You can start learning about. I'm going to talk more about this as we move forward in this podcast and in Rich, fit and Happy my program, because you know progesterone cream put on my arms, i've seen how it can change me drastically and my mood Okay, so just with me learning that opened my eyes and awareness up to other things that can actually be on my skin and affect me. So there again endocrine disrupting chemicals all around us and soaps and lotions and in the air and what we ingest. So just being highly aware can actually increase your estrogen levels. If you have an overabundance of bad gut bacteria by eating too much sugar perfect example it will shut down your astrobelom and keep estrogen from being at optimal levels in your body. Not exercising, or exercising too much, can upset that balance as well. And then we have drugs, vaccines, all kinds of things that we put in our body that can disrupt the estrogen levels. For nurses and people, working the graveyard shift and having to third shift, for instance, is a perfect example of disrupting your sleep patterns, which affects your estrogen.

Speaker 1:

Smoking causes estrogen deficiency, as well as eating disorders. I'm going to say something a little controversial here, but there is something called DIMM that people are acting like is helpful and it is not. I, here in Naples, walked into a nutrition store I thought it was and they were selling semi-glutides and all kinds of. They had IV therapies, which are great, but they also had DIMM on the shelf with some other supplements, and DIMM can be used for estrogen dominance and it's used to flush out estrogen, but then can leave you estrogen deficient, which is not what we want. Autoimmune disorders can leave you estrogen deficient and affect your estrogen levels, as well as processed foods. Processed foods are horrible to your hormones. Stay away from those as much as you can.

Speaker 1:

Birth control pills, by the way. The birth control pill actually puts women and girls into a state of early menopause. That's what all of those symptoms are on the back of your birth control packet. If you are taking birth control pills. Look at all those symptoms. Those are low estrogen symptoms or, in other words, menopause symptoms. So how is that helping you feel better? And you know I've just gone a little bit over the top with all the benefits, right? So think about, if you take a birth control pill, how that's affecting your estrogen and therefore taking away all of those benefits.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to sign up for that. I'm over the age now, but when I was younger, i took it very, very short time and I'm so grateful that I didn't take it for years and years, like many women do. And I've said this before in a couple of other podcasts. But vegan diets actually don't help with leveling out estrogen levels and helping with estrogen optimizing, and so that might not be good news, but the animal fats, the good uncured meats and the fats in those meats actually are what is going to help your body the most when it comes to being estrogen deficient. So I'm gonna start going into this a little bit further.

Speaker 1:

I'm gonna bring some experts, one in particular.

Speaker 1:

Her name is Marie Huyg and I'm gonna be bringing her on to share because she teaches doctors about estrogen.

Speaker 1:

She teaches doctors and other physicians about not just estrogen but healthy hormones and how to help their patients better, because more and more, we're finding that doctors just don't know what they're doing and they're kind of guessing, and That needs to stop, because they're doing more harm than good, and that's what this entire Podcast episode was all about.

Speaker 1:

I want to start getting the word out about this and I want women to start feeling better About themselves, having the self-confidence and self-worth to actually go out and become Everything that they want to be and who they should have been all along, because it does take a certain amount of confidence and moxie to get things done in your business, in your life, but in order to be rich, fit and happy, you really need to go down to a cellular level and Transform from there, and if you're not working with the right amount of estrogen, then you're not going to be operating Optimally, and that's what I want for you. You deserve it, and I'm going to bring more information That will not just shock you but could actually transform your life. I want that for you and I know you do too. You go and have a great day and And go be boxing.
